The first batch—more than 500 kilograms—was transported from the school to a pharmaceutical company (in Martin?) last week. Here, this huge quantity of chestnuts will be processed and used to produce healing creams and other products. The chestnut tree, which came from the Balkans, Turkey and north of Greenland, is an important raw material in Slovakia today.
Our students love to help in any way they can, therefore, they decided to collect chestnuts. A competition between the classes was devised by the teachers and was a huge success. The students were very enthusiastic and competitive—every class wanted to gather the most chestnuts. They have no doubt they can collect a whole ton of chestnuts before the season ends.
A little information about the chestnut: Students learned that it is a very healthy and helpful plant. Research has shown that the chestnut has healing properties, including anti-inflammatory effects; it also relieves swelling and helps in the treatment of migraine.
