A Lecture by Visiting Professor John Walton
American professor John Walton from Wheaton College in Illinois is a specialist on the biblical perspective of Creation as recorded in Genesis 1-3. Professor Walton lectured on this topic at the Bible School in Martin while on a recent world tour.
As he introduced his lecture, Professor Walton reminded his audience that “we must read every biblical text from the perspective of ancient times – through the eyes of those people who lived during biblical times if we want to understand Bible texts correctly.” Accordingly, students from the Bible School as well as believers from the Lutheran Church in Martin, listened as Professor Walton addressed the difficulty Christians face today as they study the creation of the world as found in the first book of the Bible. Peter introduced himself at the beginning of the session and told about his school—the Lutheran Elementary School. He had prepared a DVD with some images to grab the kids’ attention and then he presented twelve paragraphs about the universe. For each of the topics he used images from books and downloaded videos. At the end of the discussion, the children were able to look through the books that Peter brought with him. The children from the preschool asked questions, which he answered. He really and truly served his little friends.

I am very excited about my study program ‘Mission Work with Children and Youth.’ I had hoped to get into a good university but was not successful in my first attempt. At first I felt bad, but later, I found this was the best thing that could have happened to me.
I have finally found direction for my life and have learned that God is my strong refuge. I have found answers to my many questions during the study of Old and New Testament in school. I am sure these answers have directed me to the right path.

“Your words were a joy for me and solace (consolation) to my heart.” (Jer 15, 16). These are the words of Jeremiah, which Pastor Ján Bohdan Hroboň, (Bohdan’s father) would always quote whenever he came to speak to our local church. He would then open the Bible and encourage believers to follow along in their Bibles as well.
On Sunday, March 10 of this year we celebrated the life of Pastor Ján Bohdan Hroboň on what would have been his 75th birthday. Many believers from all of Slovakia came to Martin for this event. This commemorative celebration had a uniqueness all its own due to such a large gathering of people who held in common countless personal memories of their blessed Pastor Ján Bohdan Hroboň.

Final decision – ready to serve in Slovakia (part 2/4)
Where did the idea of your ministry as an English teacher in Slovakia start?
Teaching English as a Foreign Language in any country had never entered my mind until our Director of Women’s Ministries called me one day in early 2007 to ask if I would consider teaching English in our church’s first ever English camp in Martin. I remember that I was filling a bag with dry oatmeal in the grocery store when she called me. In my surprise at such a request, I think I tossed oatmeal everywhere! Continue reading →

We travel to Slovakia for the potential exponential impact our service can have. For me, this fourth trip to Slovakia really brought home to me how much of an impact the ministry of the CCE has in Slovakia and across the world, and how much God is using this ministry to bring people back to Him in this post-communist time. I would like to tell a story to illustrate God´s work in the hearts of the people of Eastern Europe. Continue reading →
