St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Mahtomedi, Minnesota, has cooperated with the Center for Christian Education for a number of years now. We are very thankful because we can see that this friendship has born a lot of fruits not only in Slovakia but also in the lives of people who are coming here. This relationship is still growing.A group of twelve people – inspiring Christian witnesses – came to Martin this summer to prepare and lead the 2012 Vacation Bible School (VBS).
There were unbelievable 250 kids participating in the VBS during the first week of July. Many of the Slovak youth, who had participated a few years ago, came to help this year, too. Most of them served as helpers or interpreters. Many of these Slovak youth are now the second generation of Vacation Bible School students. This is amazing! We can see tangible fruits of our American friends’ ministry – a next generation of Christian servant leaders is emerging in Slovakia!
Brothers and sisters from the Mid – West also prepared and conducted an EFL program for our students from the study program Mission work with children and youth. This bachelor degree program was first started in 2005, although its roots can be traced back to the original founding of the Bible School in 1998. Our students got the chance to practice their English in a two-week-long English conversation course. After the course, the students left satisfied and full of joy from their new knowledge and new friendships.
God loves us. We can see it and feel it also on the basis of our joy from serving Him and our neighbors. God can use even small things that we can offer and make something beautiful and meaningful out of them.

Our Conversational English students were an overwhelming example of students eager to learn English and students who loved their God. Our lives were enriched by the classroom singing which included songs in English and Slovak. They also put their hearts and souls into music with Jan Gilbertson.
